About us

Led by Davorin Matkovič, who has degrees in occupational therapy and physiotherapy and is on his way to a master’s degree in physiotherapy. MD Rehab Lab combines expertise with an active approach to pain and injuries. With experience working in various sports clubs, clinics and with the Slovenian U18 basketball national team, Davorin brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to his practice.

Davorin has committed his knowledge to the latest scientific research in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and pain science. He uses this knowledge to help clients recover from injuries/pains and improve their performance and quality of life

Step 1: Gradual Exposure Therapy

To avoid pain, we tend to limit our physical movement in injured areas. This usually leads to that affected areas become even more reactive/sensitive. We carefully reintroduce movement to affected areas through a personalized plan. This method helps your central nervous system rebuild its tolerance, effectively reducing sensitivity and alleviating pain.

Step 2: Recovery and Nourishment

Inadequate recovery can worsen inflammation and increase pain sensitivity. We emphasize anti-inflammatory nutrition, quality sleep, and stress management to provide the necessary support for your body to heal, enhancing resilience and overall well-being.

Step 3: Pain Reprocessing Therapy

Misinterpretation of warning signals from the central nervous system is a common contributor to chronic pain. By developing effective coping strategies and education about your condition and what the body is telling you, you will change the way you are functioning.

Step 4: Personalized Support and Accountability

Our dedicated team provides regular consultations and progress evaluations, ensuring you receive individualized support throughout your recovery journey. Our services include regular consultations with your designated professionals and a dedicated accountability representative. Through consistent progress evaluations, we guarantee personalized support and an optimized recovery experience.

Bridge Capacity Analogy

Pain is a complex experience influenced by a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors. Pain is more than just tissue damage; your level of inflammation and the sensitivity of your nervous systems are also linked with different stressors playing a role in our pain experience. To illustrate this complexity, consider the Bridge Capacity Analogy. Imagine your body as a bridge designed to carry a certain amount of weight—its capacity. The various stressors in your life—such as physical injuries, emotional stress, inflammation, and lifestyle factors—are like vehicles adding load to the bridge. When the load exceeds the bridge’s capacity, strain occurs, leading to pain.

Our objective is to prevent your “bridge” from becoming overloaded by either reducing the load and/or increasing the bridge’s capacity:

Reducing the Load

Involves identifying and addressing each of your biopsychosocial factors. This includes managing tissue damage, decreasing nervous system sensitivity, reducing inflammation, alleviating emotional stress, improving recovery strategies, relieving muscle tightness, and strengthening weak links in your movement patterns.

Focuses on empowering you to build resilience. This is achieved through education, developing a proper understanding of pain mechanisms, and incorporating targeted exercise rehabilitation to enhance your body’s ability to handle stressors.

By recognizing the multifactorial nature of pain and addressing both the load and the bridge’s capacity, we implement a more comprehensive and lasting approach to pain relief or rehabilitation. This holistic strategy not only alleviates current discomfort but also equips you with the tools to manage and prevent future pain effectively.
